After consideration and research, basically, I found two methods to complete my idea, Super Mario.

1, The first one combines Chroma Keying and video synthesis instead of coding, like the sample 2 & 3. However, the sample 2 seems a little dull because there is no performance in the game. If you watch it carefully, you will find that the character kept the same action all the time, while the sample 1 and sample3 seem more flexible and actors showed a real performance. In fact, what I want to do is a little different. I want to show a real actor performs in a comprehensive game scene.

I said there is no coding in my first method, so I cannot make my idea come true as the sample 1 and the sample 3 which need a lot of coding. There is a skill used in the cinema named Chroma key, which is also known as the Blue Screen. I can use this skill to separate the actor from his stage background and then use video synthesis to set the actor into the game scene. In fact, the actor just need to perform in the narrow space and the movement of the game scene will make audience produce real game feeling.

In fact, there are many Apps can complete this kind of job. The most common one is the Photo Booth. I can add a special background into a stage performance. The question is where should I get the special background. I found a special edition of Super Mario and it can provide me the background by now, but I don’t think it’s the best way to express my idea. I am trying to find some new ways to get the background.

The biggest problem of this method is that the actor must perform in a proper pace so that the actor can be seemed real in the game scene. However, the game scene has been pre-sett, so the actor must be familiar with the whole scene. Besides, I also need a technical person to process the game when the performance is going on which was the key point I said before, make the game scene operate.

The advantage
Easy, No coding, Use Apps
The disadvantage
The performer needs a good coordination with the game scene
The game scene should be pre-set
Not flexible

2. The second way is a typical coding method. The sample 1 and Sample 3 add elements in the performance through coding, but I want to add performance into the game through coding. First, I need to find the source code of the Super Mario. I have already found two kinds of code of Super Mario, but they are not the classical Super Mario. Second, I need to change the code of the character Mario and make it as a real time character which captured from the camera. Now I am trying to find more codes and choose the best one to complete it. In this method, I will use tracking skill, contour extraction skill and much about Augmented Reality. Obviously, the second one is more difficult than the first one, but the effect will be better.

The advantage
Lifelike
Flexible
The disadvantage
Complex
Cost a long time to deal with the performance captured from the stage

The related equipment
Digital camera
Computer
Projector
Stage and related settings
