99% vs. 1%

I am watching the live of Occupy Wall Street now and today’s content is Occupy Wall Street Kitchen, which is also named The People’s Kitchen. It’s a revolutionary space for breaking bread and building communities that is open to everyone.
In fact, I cannot understand the exact meaning of Occupy Wall Street in some degree since I come from China, a republic country. However, I can deeply understand the situation of the 99 percent of people, not only the American, the Chinese, but people all around the world.
The current environment of the whole world is that a small group of people are controlling most of the world’s money and power, they are banks, the mortgage industry and the insurance industry. While, the rest people which in a large amount just have a little power, even none. Thus, I said I could understand them and I also expect them to have better living conditions. Just as they said in the website, they were facing different kinds of problems, they had no money and they had no power. Obviously, they want to change the situation.
In China, there are also this part of people. They have little money, own little power and get little attention, but they really do the heaviest job and the foulest work. What’s more, they still need to pay the same amount of rental as the rich people. They also want to struggle with the government, but there is no good method for them to struggle. If they held a movement like Occupy Wall Street, they will be repressed soon. That’s the difference between China and the United States.
That’s the main reason why I cannot understand the real meaning and influence of Occupy Wall Street. You know, in China, this kind of group or organization cannot be existed for a long time and in my mind, I cannot image how did it build up and operate. However, would there be obstacles of the security office, the police office and the government? In the live show, I can clearly see that all the police are keeping the order instead of suppressing the movement. It happened that I have my class today near the World Trade Center and I can feel the real atmosphere personally. A lot of police was set in the street and the subway station. However, in China, if we see so much police on the street, we will become too afraid to go outside, which means a huge disaster. Contrarily, in the New York City, people live their lives as usual. These are also the main reasons why Occupy Wall Street could exist in the United States.
Last Media Organization classPriscilla Grim who was a social media specialist and a member of Occupy Wall Street was invited to give us a speech which impress me more. As a social media specialist, she did a lot of work, such as consultant and social media contractor, while now she is working in Occupy Wall Street. When she said she has a 9-year old daughter and her daughter commented that Occupy Wall Street is a terrible group because she cannot see her mother everyday. At that time, I just thought the little girl’s opinion is the purest one. It didn’t contain politics, power and money. Yes, I can image that 8-10 hours working per day to deal with the Occupy Wall Street is a great contribution.
Finally, I still have some questions about the final meaning of Occupy Wall Street. Of cause, Occupy Wall Street has succeeded attracting the world’s attention and they have enrolled enough people. However, do they really get the right they want? As far as I know, they still live in the same situation. Therefore, I think there may be some better ways to solve the unfair problems, and change the 99 percent people’s situation fundamentally.
I believe that someone will find a wiser way to solve these problems and in the future, there will be no 99 percent and 1 percent, while there will only be 100 percent.
